The family of the late Brent Dickens, who passed away last year, is terminating the lease of the Rose House, effective May 1, 2009. The college was fortunate since 2006 to have benefited from the facility for retreats, guests speakers and hosting events.
Architecture's 45th Anniversary San Francisco Alumni Social

In celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Architecture Department, BAR Architects and the Architecture Department are sponsoring the Alumni reception during the 2009 San Francisco AIA Convention. The Alumni Reception is being held at BAR Architecture, 543 Howard Street, San Francisco. The reception is free to all faculty, $20 for guests. The Zimbra Calendar will be implemented during the weekend of April 18-19. Reservations are being accepted for calendar training, which begins April 14. The training schedule and sign-up information are available at the Zimbra calendar information web page along with video tutorials, user guides and other information. The projects in this exhibit represent the best work for our third- and fourth-year students, and you are encouraged to give their work the attention it deserves. Ballots have been placed in faculty mailboxes. Please vote for the best project and return your ballot to Alissa in the Architecture department office. You may also submit your votes by email to amagoria@calpoly.edu.

An exhibition curated by Professor David Leary, Architect, at College of DuPage, Chicago, presents student work focused on architectural precedent. Student teams created precise graphic interpretations that were transformed into highly crafted bass wood models.
ACSA is soliciting feedback regarding the NAAB Final Draft of the 2009 Conditions for Accreditation. A PowerPoint presentation is posted on their web site, along with extensive information regarding the two-year process to update the Conditions. A preliminary response from ACSA to NAAB will be sent on April 15, but you can comment until that date. Otherwise you may send feedback directly to NAAB until June 1.
The ACSA is also collecting feedback on their publications such as JAE, ACSA News, etc. To Comment you may take a brief publications survey.

We are in an urban age. Most of us today live in cities. Is there a place or a neighborhood in your city that needs a good fix? Do you know of an unplanned settlement, a displaced community, economic uncertainty that has driven away business, environmental degradation that has reduced quality of life, an area enduring the aftermath of natural calamity, a derelict urban site? Have a plan that could turn things around? Submissions are sough that solves these common urban problems. The top four submissions will be invited to present at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in November 2009. For more information please go to the Urban SOS web site.

Urban Revision is reaching out to all major universities in the U.S. to ask for help in getting the word out about their latest competition Re:Vision DALLAS. The goal of the competition is to find a winning design for the first sustainable city block in the U.S., which will be located in Dallas, Texas. This is not a proposed project. The land has been purchased and the supporting organizations are in place. All that is needed now is a winning design to get the development started. Architecture, Engineering and Design Students/Professors are encouraged to enter Re:Vision DALLAS.

Submit your successful design-build project(s) for the 2009 National Design-Build Project Competition or nominate an individual who has demonstrated dedication to integrated project delivery for a Distinguished Leadership Award or the prestigious Brunelleschi Lifetime Achievement Award. Completed entries and entry fee payments must arrive to the DBIA National office no later than May 18, 2009.
