In Memoriam

Neil Watson

The many members of our faculty and student body whose lives were touched, improved and inspired by their association with Neil Watson will be saddened by the announcement of his death on Sunday, October 4. Neil first came to Cal Poly in the fall of 1999 to present a lecture and weekend workshop on one of his many talents, watercolor drawing. The lecture and workshop were both attended by capacity participants.

In the intervening years, Neil has returned to the Architecture department to share his great talent and intellect with our faculty and students. A persuasive and gentle teaching he found something of value in each drawing produced in the workshops.

His consistent advice to students of drawing and design was, to "push the limits, it is not easy to step our of your comfort zone." He lived by that advice until he succumbed to a prolonged illness last week.
