The CAED is keeping both 21-105A and 21-105B open for all CAED personnel to reserve at this time. Some important procedures follow to reserve successfully.
1. Check the room calendar you want to reserve to see if the time you need is open.
2. If the time and date are open, you will need to make the actual reservation through your own calendar. Close all other calendars but your own (yours is the one listed at the top).
3. Once on your calendar, find the date and start time of your reservation and double click. A "Quick Ad Appt" window will open.
4. Enter your last name and title (or class #) of the event in the "subject" box.
5. Choose "More details" at bottom left.
6. Place the building number (21-) in the location box and a drop down menu will appear showing you all the rooms with calendars in building 21. Choose the one you want.
7. Choose the end time of your reservation on the right hand side of the screen
8. Choose "Save" at top left.
9. Close your calendar and open the room you have reserved to confirm that all went well.

There is a limited number of good condition file cabinets, shelf units and storage cabinets available through the Support Shop. They may be seen in the Shop area until taken or October 2. They will then disappear never to be seen again!

Include dates and complete titles of awards, papers, conferences, etc., relative to the announcement, and send to Henri an electronic copy of any papers published. Ryan Hoyt, a representative of Alpha Rho Chi would like to invite CAED faculty to a Faculty Social to allow students and professors of the College or Architecture and Environmental Design to interact and get to know one another outside of the classroom.
The social will be held at Tom Di Santo's home at 1627 Nipomo Street in San Luis Obispo on October 10 from 7:00-10:00pm. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and refreshments.
In an effort to be more efficient and also to be more sustainable, the Architecture Department has instituted a new process for announcing crit schedules and locations.
You will find a Studio Review Form on the Administration page of Architecture web site. For any review that you would like to have published on the Architecture web site, please fill out and submit a Studio Review Form on line. For those who have already scheduled a crit/review for Crit Week please fill out a Studio Review Form as soon as possible.
Your crit/review will be placed on the Studio Reviews section of the News & Events page as soon after we receive your form as possible.

The first lecture of the 2009-10 Hearst Lecture Series will be by Kevin Klinger on October 9, 2009 in the Business Rotunda, Room 03-213 on the subject of Manufacturing Material Effects and the Institute for Digital Fabrication.
Hosted by the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, the Hearst Lecture Series highlights the work of designers and architects from all over the world. The free public lectures are made possible through a grant from the Hearst Foundation.

The Rotch Traveling Scholarship was established in Boston in 1883 to promote architectural education through foreign travel.This program also includes foreign travel and has been established to augment the architectural education of students of architecture at the highest level of scholarship within a studio format. Proposals are invited from faculty members in all NAAB accredited schools of architecture in the United States for travel anywhere in the world during the following calendar year. This award category calls for architectural design work that, to date, remains unbuilt. Unbuilt architectural designs of any project type are eligible, including purely theoretical projects and unbuilt client-sponsored projects, such as buildings, interiors, transportation infrastructure, and monuments. The intent of this award category is to welcome the ideas and work of practicing architects, architectural educators, and architecture students from throughout the Bay Area. The New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects' Emerging New York Architects (ENYA) Committee announces its 2010 Biennial Ideas competition for students and young professionals. This year they have chosen to focus on the historic High Bridge which currently connects recreational parks in the Bronx and Manhattan. The competition will challenge participants to transform the bridge and surround areas into a vibrant public space that includes an arts complex for emerging artistic communities. The Miami+Beach Bienal 2009 and the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects cordially invite professionals to participate in its different categories with built works from the last five years. Among the categories will be one devoted to projects and unbuilt architecture, in addition to an e-competition open to both professionals and students. Project will also be exhibited at the 2010 National Convention of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Applications for Nuckolls Fund 2010 Grants are now available.

In 2010, the Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education will award several grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. Grant applications are now available and can be found at the Application Forms page of The Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education Inc. web site. Grants will be announced at Lightfair International on May 12, 2010.
Jim Fenske, an architect in South Pasadena, is writing an EPA grant and is interesting in partnering with possible Cal Poly faculty for the grant.
