- NEW - The Leading Edge Student Design Competition is officially underway!
Registration Deadline: March 26, 2010
Entries Due: June 11, 2010
The theme is “Zero-Net Now: Designing for a Sustainable and Energy Efficient Future.” The projects, cited in Long Beach, California, are a Green-Collar Workforce Training Center (Challenge 1) and an accompanying Dormitory Building (Challenge 2). The Competition website has been updated with complete challenge materials, and registration is open. As always, First- and Second-Place Winners in each challenge will receive a monetary award, as will their schools. Please see their website www.leadingedgecompetition.org for more information.
- NEW - Architectural Spaces Exhibition - The LoDi Project, Raleigh, NC

THE LoDi PROJECT is asking artists to address the theme of Architectural Spaces for our November 2009 exhibition. We want to see how architecture inspires your art, and this can be something as technical as architectural construction drawings and plans, to looser interpretations such as photographs or paintings based on current and ancient architectural structures.
Traditional and non-traditional styles and media are welcome, including but not limited to: water color, oil, and acrylic painting, ink, charcoal, graphite drawings, pastels, mixed media, fabric, printmaking, aerosol, collage, photography, digital illustrations and graphics, etc

Scholarships
- NEW - The Western Chapter of the Association of Preservation Technology (WCAPT) is pleased to announce a student scholarship program for west coast-based students to attend the 2009 APT conference that will be held in Los Angeles on November 4th – 6th. Autodesk now offers 13-month licenses of the 2010 portfolio of 2D and 3D products for free* download on the Autodesk Education Community
. This includes full functionality design software such as Autodesk Revit, Ecotect and Autocad. In addition to the free downloads, registration to the Community also provides you with access to numerous tutorials, blogs, and forums which serve to expand your level of knowledge on a particular program.
To access the free software downloads,
1. Go to:http://students6.autodesk.com/
2. Choose USA under "How do I sign up"?
3. Fill out the form, create a username & password (note: You must use your calpoly email address as a username!).
You will receive an email confirming your registration with a link to login.
4. Go crazy!!!-Download the appropriate program(s)
With the assistance of newly trained Autodesk Student Experts, Autodesk will be holding several on-campus workshops each quarter to improve students’ skill levels with various technologies you are able to download from the Education Community, such as Autodesk Revit, Ecotect, and Green Building Studio. The workshops will be facilitated by an Autodesk technical specialist, and upcoming dates will be announced shortly.
We all know how frustrating it can be to learn a new program without proper assistance, don't let this year be a missed opportunity. These programs are yet another set of tools for design students to convey the meaning of their projects through various forms of visual representation. The workshops and Student Experts are here to help you expand your educational experience, and career skills – so we all can ultimately make an impact on the world through better design.
