The Thai Study Program is conducted through Cal Poly International Programs. Students take Cal Poly courses from Cal Poly faculty while studying and traveling in Southeast Asia. In the last program architecture students took Arch 453, 420, and 480. Students use the facilities of Chiang Mai University in the north of Thailand, and a major university in Bangkok where most of the classes are taught. As a part of the program, students visit hill tribe communities, the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Sukothai in Thailand and Angkor in Cambodia and have an opportunity to visit Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Laos. Usually an opportunity in the last week is to go to the South of Thailand to take a weeklong diving class that leads to diving certification. At the end of the program many students have traveled to one or more other Asian countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, China and Japan before returning to California.

The summer architecture program at Fontainebleau consists of four weeks of intensive design studios and a final fifth-week field trip through France. Students successfully completing the 6 credit program who present a transcript to the department will receive credit for one fourth-year design studio. The architecture department does not coordinate participation in this program. It is up to each individual student to apply directly to Fontainebleau.
Students need to be mindful that this program is a non accredited program and that Cal Poly's evaluation office no longer accepts credit for any classes taken at the Fontainebleau School of Architecture. Students interested in attending Fontainebleau will receive credit for their project(s) through a Credit by Examination Petition from the records office. The examination will be a formal presentation of their portfolio to faculty members of fourth year. There is a $25.00 Cal Poly fee for the exam.
Students interested in attending the Fontainebleau School of Architecture should schedule a meeting with the Department Head and Prof. Jonathan Reich prior to their enrollement.
