Architecture Graduates “Unleash” Designs

Cal Poly’s fifth-year architecture students presented an exhibition of their thesis projects in a program entitled “Unleashed.” The exhibition's opening reception was held on Friday, May 23, from 3-6PM., in Chumash Auditorium, and continued during Memorial Weekend, May 24-25 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. The exhibit was free and open to the public.

The exhibition, the largest of its kind between Los Angeles and San Francisco, featured the final projects of more than 150 graduating students in a variety of formats, including large-scale models, digital renderings, theory books, and hand drawings. Proposals for residential, mixed use, urban, historic, and cultural structures were presented in settings that range from the Central Coast to the moon.

The student architecture club “Alpha Rho Chi” and a committee of graduating students are organizing the show with guidance from Architecture Department faculty.

Cal Poly Architecture Department Receives
Largest Pledge In CSU History

The Architecture Department is pleased to have been named the recipient of a pledged bequest of $60,000,000. This announcement was made at a press conference held on Cal Poly’s campus September 26, 2007. It is difficult to measure the implication of such a generous unrestricted gift on the future of the department. How does one start dreaming and planning for a time when we will be implementing some of the wishes we believe could change the lives of generations of students to come?

I hope that as you read the attached Press Release as well as my comments from that event you will feel a sense of pride at your connection with the University, the College, and the Department.

It is important to understand that this is a pledge that will not be realized in the donor’s lifetime. It is my firm belief that this pledge — this extraordinary act of faith on the part of this donor — will inspire other friends and alumni to continue to contribute so that they may participate in the creation of a bright future for the study of architecture, and in particular the study of architecture at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Thank you,

Henri T. de Hahn
Architecture Department Head
