THE COMPETITION:
The Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) intends to build a new museum next
to the lake of Louvain-la-Neuve. The project of a new building next to the
lake of Louvain-la-Neuve will offer new opportunities for a true University
Museum of Arts and Civilisations. As a token to the national and
international reputation of the city, the building is intended to place the
University museum among the leaders of this kind of institution in Europe,
and will have a similar standing to comparable institutions in the United
States. The total surface area of exhibition space in the new museum will be
three times larger. This increase will allow the development of the museum’s
wish to be a place for dialogue in the broad sense. Several exhibition areas
will be included in the future building: an atrium, an area dedicated to the
permanent collections organized into specific areas, and areas that will
host temporary exhibitions as well as activity areas, an auditorium seating
around five hundred, and a waterfront “theme bar.”
For the first phase of the competition, only general outlines describing the
building’s integration in the area are expected. The museum’s building in
itself will be detailed in the second phase of the competition, however it
is necessary for the first volumetric design to concur with the museum’s
specific needs.

THE COMPETITION:
The Municipality of Ferizaj/Uro‰evac announces a Spatial Design Competition
for a Mobility Centre Project. UN-HABITAT Kosovo is co-funding and
supporting the competition throughout the process. The city of
Ferizaj/Uro‰evac is located about 40 km south of the capital city of
Kosovo-UNMIK , Pristina. One of the main characteristics of the city is its
location; strategically placed along the main transport corridor from
Pristina to Skopje in FYR Macedonia. Today’s railway station is located in
the heart of the city, making it easily accessible, but the railway also
constitutes a barrier and causes noise and serious accidents. The nearby bus
terminal is functioning as a national/international hub for passengers but
could be better connected to the railway station. The mobility centre
project should integrate and promote local and regional collective
transport, re-exploiting the railway as a catalyst for economic growth and
offering improved spatial qualities to the citizens. The objective of the
competition is not only the design of a mobility centre and its close
surroundings, but to obtain a vision of a regenerated Ferizaj/Uro‰evac city
centre with a strong identity.

THE COMPETITION:
Espoo City Hall has reached the end of its technical and functional
lifespan. In various studies of the need for repairs, the level of repairs
needed in the renovation of City Hall varies between 100% and 110%. In
practice, the fundamental improvement of City Hall at its current site would
mean building a new building. Therefore, it is worth studying what benefits
the possibility of moving the building from its present location and form
would bring from the point of view of the whole adjoining office complex
area. The first phase of the renovation will be followed later by the
renovation of office building 1 and the partial renovation of office
building 2, the possible construction of residential units near the office
complex, and the rearrangement of parking partly as underground parking. On
21 March 2007, the Department of Industry and Employment decided that an
international idea competition on the office complex area will be organized
to develop the office complex.

The aim of the first phase of the design is to find a solution to the basic
question of how City Hall will be renovated. The competition will also seek
a long-term overall solution and implementation path for the office complex,
which is in need of change. The area will be developed and renovated for the
people of Espoo as an area of blocks in the city centre that offer versatile
municipal and commercial services and where residential housing plays a key
role. The office complex to be renovated is being developed in phases over a
long period of time and many sub-phases are needed to complete the design
process.

housing procurement, ESP is explained in detail on the project's website at
http://www.esp-sim.org. Pattern book housing is suggested to be a key
feature of the ESP process.

It is the promoter's intention to build the winning pattern book designs
into the project's innovative multi user 3d design software called
